pics of pavers

Here are some shots of the recent home improvement project involving pavers, and another picture by request, of the kitchen project. Not much fishing going on, but fall is coming. Just had a bunch of compost delivered. As soon as it stops raining I'll be spreading dirt.

decisions, decisions

Since the cabinet doors didn't arrive until right before the party. I was only able to prime them before installing them... with plans to finish painting them shortly. The primer color is a lighter shade of green. Some people have said they like the look better than the colors I picked out.

You can see the color and finish of the doors on the right, and the primer on the left. What do you think?

New Dining Room

We've finished painting the dining room (formerly the living room) and are trying to decide what to do with the floors. We pulled the tiles up in the foyer as well as the carpet in the dining room. Originally we had planned on refinishing the floors to a dark color. The floors look ok with the current natural oak finish but it still feels a bit 1960's to me. I'm looking for something more modern. To refinish hardwood floors, it costs over $3 sq foot. I could probably put pergo floors over it for less cost.

Anyway. I like the paint colors. Barbara did a good job picking them out.

I'll put a chandelier in the dining room eventually, I have to buy some specialized drill bits to get through and along inside the ceiling.

When I pulled the tiles up in the foyer, it left some adhesive stuck to the floors. I had to sand to get it off. So, I have to do something with the floors, there is
some exposed wood in places where the sander went to deep.

Any suggestions?

Bath county trout fishing

This extended weekend was a welcome vacation from the house renovation. My buddy took me up to Bath county VA to do a little trout fishing. We camped with some people he knows, that do this a couple times a year. It was a little cold Saturday night and Sunday night but the daytime temperatures were just right. The scenery was beautiful and the stocked trout waters provided plenty of entertainment. The company was good and we ate fish for dinner.

Adventures in lighting

Spring is arriving more and more each day... Soon it will beckon me to the outdoors once again for fishing and swimming and fun. But until that day. The inside of the house still gets my attention.

This weekend was full of excitement, Some big ticket items were installed in the kitchen. The choice of overhead lighting will take a bit of getting used to. I joined 2 kits of suspended rail lighting to create this "S" shape. I would have liked recessed lighting better but running the wires was going to be a major headache.

the ceiling fan in the old dining room matches the rail lights as well. We chose a warm tan color for the wall paint. It makes the room a bit more cozy.

The cabinet doors should arrive this week.

Finished painting the fridge white this weekend as well. Its tough to get the sheen just right. I'll have to buy some more magnets.
